3-MINUTE IMPROVISATION

There is a particular sound to most vocal groups, quite unlike that of a traditional choir. It is called “close harmony.” The vocal lines are literally closer together, and they move in formation, like a flock of birds. Written down, the parts would look much like the score for a saxophone section. Indeed, some groups, The Pied Pipers, for instance, could sound remarkably like four saxophones—alto, two tenors, and baritone.
